We’re inviting you to join 22 advocacy, research, faith-based, and international organizations calling on Congress to stop the flow of U.S. weapons to Haiti, Mexico, and Latin America — by advocating for the Americas Regional Monitoring of Arms Sales Act (ARMAS Act). Representative Joaquín Castro (D-TX-20) and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) introduced it. We are aiming for more Democratic co-sponsors, especially those in Foreign Affairs Committees. Just before this call to action, Global Exchange, Stop US Arms to Mexico, and the Forum on the Arms Trade co-hosted “Pathways Through the Worsening Crises in the U.S.-Mexico Relationship,” featuring Elena Gutiérrez (Global Exchange), Josué Martinez Leal (Oasis De Paz Del Espíritu Santo Amparito AC), John Lindsay-Poland (Project to Stop US Arms to Mexico), and moderator Marco Castillo (Global Exchange).
Panelists called for a U.S.-Mexico relationship rooted in cooperation, not militarization — including passage of the Stop Arming Cartels Act, judicial cooperation to fight money laundering, an end to punitive drug policy, and stronger oversight of the international gun trade, including a ban on .50 caliber firearm sales.
