The Migration for the Americas Collective (COMPA) and the mothers and fathers of the 43 missing students of Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, Mexico, express their resounding rejection of the use of force by the Chiapas police

Last Sunday, February 16, mothers and fathers of the 43 missing students of Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, Mexico and students from the teacher’s college were brutally repressed by elements of the police and the Attorney General’s Office of the state of Chiapas in the immediate vicinity of the Indigenous Teachers College of  Mactumactzá, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

The attacks, with tear gas projectiles, left a balance of three seriously injured students (two with projectile impact on the head) and two Ayotzinapa mothers, one of them along with his five-year-old granddaughter, wounded.

This is not the first time that the Chiapas police act irresponsibly and violently. Human Rights Organizations, part of COMPA and other networks, have documented and denounced the systematic repression, by the same police, of migrants who participating in actions and public mobilizations, mainly in the southern border.

This procedure must be terminated immediately and the legal responsibilities of those who authorize and exercise the unjustified violence of the State must be fined.

These actions exhibit the racist and anti-immigrant acting of the state police, jeopardize the integrity of the people and undermine the rights to free transit, organization and protest.

We reaffirm our unconditional solidarity with the struggle for truth and justice in the case of the 43 students, and with the rights to migrate, to international protection and transit.
