Last night’s victory for Donald Trump was a shock and a blow to us all. His win is a terrible wake up call.
It is a low moment for our country, but we are not about to give up. Resisting corporate power, organizing for justice across borders, and building community by listening to our sisters and brothers from across the world is at the core of the Global Exchange mission. And never has it been more needed.
Now more than ever, we must come together to build the equitable and just country and world we know is possible.
We all need to stand together, be human, and work to to win the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans.
It won’t be easy, but we’ve been down before. I remember the November night in 1980 when Jimmy Carter lost to Ronald Reagan. I felt the same sense of dread then that I feel this morning as the news of Trumps ascension starts to sink in.
Ronald Reagan did tremendous damage to the United States. He involved us in ugly wars in Lebanon, Central America, and Afghanistan. But we fought back and that’s what we have to do now. Fight back and fight smart.
