Overview

Spend 10 days exploring and learning about Health in Cuba. You’ll have a chance to visit with Cuban doctors, medical students and other professionals working the area of health and healing while also experiencing the island’s vibrant culture and community-led projects in historic Havana.

This is a unique program that will take a holistic look at healthy living in Cuba. From the development of vaccines, mental health, exercise and mobility, care for third-age persons, nutrition to the history of free universal healthcare and the revolution. This trip will bring you unique perspectives, practices and exchanges on Cuba’s approach to healthy living while also visiting historic sites and making important connections supporting the Cuban people.

What’s Not Included

Expenses of a purely personal nature, trip insurance, R/T flights from your originating city to Miami, accommodations in Miami, or luggage fees.

Flights to and from Cuba are not included, however we will facilitate the arrangement of flights with our partners along with your Visa.

Roommates are also not a guarantee though we will make every effort possible to accommodate your request.

If a roommate is unavailable you are responsible for the single supplement fee.

Cuba trip deposits are non-refundable once trip is confirmed.

  • Tour of Old Havana including the four main historic plazas
  • Visit to the Fine Arts Museum which is located near Paseo del Prado, it is considered one of the most important in Latin America and the Caribbean. Together with the largest collection of Cuban art in the world, it preserves pieces from the most important European schools.
  • Lunch at local restaurant
  • Visit an artistic Afro Cuban community project. Enjoy an opportunity to dance and enjoy groups of all kinds dedicated to Afro Cuban music.

  • Dinner on your own
  • 9.30am Meeting with a specialist from the Public Health Ministry
  • 11.30am Visit to one of the Medical Schools to learn of medical educa5on in Cuba and about US
  • Students trained in Cuba & Cuban doctors going to other countries
  • 1.30pm Lunch included
  • 3.30pm Meeting with your host organization in Cuba (ICAP) to have an exchange about the relations between Cuba and the USA
  • 5.30pm Return to the hotel

  • 8.00pm Tour of the Morro Cabaña Fortress an enjoy the historic Cannon Firing Ceremony.
  • 9.30am Participate in a Tai Chi class or other gentle physical activity
  • 11.30am Visit a mental health clinic
  • 1.30pm Lunch included
  • 3.30pm Enjoy a rehearsal of Habana Compas Dance Company, recognized nationally and internationally for combining dance and percussion, exchange with its dancers.
  • 6.00pm Return to the hotel
  • Dinner on your own
  • Optional evening visits on your own can include: Fabrica de Arte, Jazz Cafe, or Opera de la Calle
  • 9.30am Visit with a professional in BioTech to discuss Cuba’s development of vaccines
  • 11.30am Visit to CENESEX, the Cuban Center for Sexual Education, to have an exchange about their programs 1.30pm Lunch included
  • 3.30pm Visit to a third age facility to learn about programs for elders
  • 5.30pm Return to the hotel
  • Dinner on your own
  • Breakfast at the hotel and check out
  • 8.30am Depart for Santa Clara
  • 11.30am Tour of the city with a visit to the Che Monument and mausoleum 1.00pm Lunch and then continue on to Trinidad
  • 3.30pm Arrival and check in at the hotel
  • Dinner included at the hotel
  • 9.30am Visit a policlinic to learn about the Cuban health care system
  • 11.30am Visit an alternative medicine doctor
  • 1.30pm Lunch
  • 3.30pm Visit to a Maternity Home to learn about their work with expectant mothers
  • 5.30pm Return to the hotel
  • Dinner at the hotel
  • 8.30pm Meeting with a CDR community block organiza5on, to learn about the role of local community organizing
  • Breakfast at the hotel and check out
  • 8.30am Depart for Havana with a short stop at Cienaga de Zapata National Park to learn of the protected area there. Lunch
  • Stop at Playa Giron Museum and learn of the history there
  • Continue on to Havana
  • Check in to the hotel
  • Dinner on your own
  • 9.00am Visit Fidel Castro Center of Studies
  • 11.30am Visit to the artisans craft market, one example of private enterprise in Cuba Time to have lunch on your own
  • 7.30pm Farewell dinner
  • 10.00pm Enjoy jazz at la Zorra y el Cuervo
