We’re about to witness what could become the most encouraging events in the history of the struggle to address climate change.
This weekend and early next week, February 27th through March 2nd, more than 10,000 youth will travel to Washington, DC for the largest youth climate event in US history – Power Shift ’09. On Monday, a huge number of those committed climate advocates will meet with their members of Congress and Senators to press their concerns. The impact of 10,000+ young people in DC to talk about climate will be overwhelming.
Nothing impresses an elected official quite like a large number of voters.
In case that isn’t impressive enough, a completely separate event will also happen in DC on Monday – the Capitol Climate Action. Called by William Berry and Bill McKibben, the action against coal has now been endorsed by Dr. James Hansen, the nation’s leading climatologist.
