Global Exchange stands in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives in the United States and around the world.

We stand with the people demanding justice for George Floyd and the countless individuals within the black community who have suffered for far too long at the hands of a complacent America.

It is time to speak out against police brutality, stand up to the insane and inflammatory threats made by the president, and to end the systemic racism terrorizing the Black community.

We must rise up to resist injustice and to rebuild a future that is rooted in human rights and true equality.

We commit to taking action in allyship with the Black community and invite you to join us:

Join the Movement for Black Lives Week of Action: The time for action is now, people are taking to the streets, flooding social media, calling local officials and demanding justice for those who have been killed by the police all over the county and now is the time to join them. Today, they call for “Relief for our Community”. For more information on how to take action visit: https://m4bl.org/week-of-action/

Invest in Community and Defund the Police: We know those closest to the problem are closest to the solution. The C.R.I.S.E.S. Act will ensure communities are able to respond to local emergency situations, saving money and lives. https://allianceforbmoc.org/crises-act. More ways to act can be found here – Invest – Divest.

Tell Congress – Stop Selling Weapons of War to the Police: People rising up in righteous anger against police brutality are being met with massive police brutality. Armored vehicles, tanks, and police armed to the teeth are patrolling the streets while drones and helicopters buzz overhead. The 1033 program was created in 1990 during the war on drugs” (aka the war on black communities) to give “left-over” military weapons to local U.S. police departments. Since 1990, at least $5.4 billion in U.S. military equipment has been transferred. Sign CodePink’s petition here.

Donate to National Bailout Fund: Protestors should not be held in prison, especially now in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Donate here.

Turn out the Vote: Elections matter. If we want to make change, we have to engage in every arena, including electoral politics. Visit the NAACP website for detailed information on registration, polling places, and more. https://www.naacp.org/campaigns/voterhelp/
