Webinar: Honduran Elections Tainted by Trump Intervention — Now what?

Honduras is now officially mired in deeply problematic post-election turmoil in the wake of Donald Trump’s open manipulation.
Join us on Tuesday December 16th to learn more about what is unfolding.
“Donald Trump has just staged the most egregious U.S. electoral intervention in decades,” says Ted Lewis, who recently headed a Global Exchange electoral observation mission in Honduras. “Trump’s actions have directly undermined public faith at a moment when Hondurans were preparing for a democratic transfer of power. Instead, Trump’s attacks on democracy are once again promoting chaos—even as he pardons and frees the narco-trafficking former president of Honduras and ramps up illegal attacks on ‘drug boats’ and now tankers off the shores of oil-rich Venezuela.”
On Tuesday, Ted will moderate a panel of experts, all of whom closely monitored the November 30 elections in Honduras, including Lucía Vijil, the Operations Director of CESPAD, Global Exchange’s long-time Honduran partner.
CESPAD and Global Exchange are putting the final touches on a report that should be available by the time this English-language webcast (with interpretation to Spanish) takes place next Tuesday.
Panelists include:
Lucía Vijil
Operations Director, Center for the Study of Democracy (CESPAD) and Co-Organizer of the Honduras Election Observation Mission
Omar Gómez Trejo
Human Rights Defender; former GIEI–Ayotzinapa Executive Secretary; former Lead Prosecutor for the 2019–2021 Ayotzinapa investigation; Delegate of the Honduras Election Observation Mission
Pamela Ruiz, Ph.D.
Researcher on gangs, organized crime, and governance in northern Central America; Delegate of the Honduras Election Observation Mission
