On August 20, 2026, LILA Latinx LGBTQI+ will bring together the vibrant Latinx community and Allies of Durham and the Triangle for a powerful one-day convening rooted in one simple truth: your voice is your vote, and your voice matters. This is not a political event. It is a community event, nonpartisan, culturally grounded, and driven by the people it serves. Durham and the Triangle are home to one of the most vibrant and rapidly growing Latinx communities in the Southeast, a region with a strong tradition of civic engagement and social justice. This is the right place for this conversation, and this community is ready for it.

The centerpiece of the summit will be community leaders who have lived and worked in countries where governments do not respect citizens’ human rights. Their firsthand stories will provide powerful real-world context for why democratic participation is not just a right but an act of self-advocacy, a declaration that the Latinx community is here, we count, and we will not be silenced.

From voter registration resources to candid conversations about civic power, this summit meets the Latinx community and allies where they are and equips them with tools to protect their families, dignity, and future. When we vote, we don’t just cast a ballot; we stand up for our rights.

Durham is ready. The Triangle is ready. The Latinx community is ready. It’s time to show up and show up strong.
