The Danish police have been very aggressive throughout the Copenhagen Climate Conference, detaining roughly 1,000 in Saturday’s massive demonstration, and several hundred more in a variety of preemptive raids. Last night, the police used tear gas after an event in which Naomi Klein rallied the crowd to support action at the conference.Today, in an apparent attempt to decapitate tomorrow’s Reclaim Power action, planned for the Bella Center itself, activist Tadzio Mueller, one of the leaders of the action, was arrested and charged with violence against police and disturbing the public order. Twenty youth were also arrested outside Klimaforum.
I have been in meetings with Tadzio several times over the last two weeks and I do not believe he has done anything other generate excitement for tomorrow’s action.
The conduct of the Danish police over the last two weeks has been deplorable.
