What Are Your 2013 Travel Resolutions?

We’re looking forward to a bright year ahead of us at Reality Tours. Read on to find out where Global Exchange staff members are dreaming of visiting in 2013, and share with us your travel resolutions for 2013!

Burmese Temples

Kirsten Moller, Global Exchange Co-Founder and Director of Community Organizing, invites you to join her in Burma:
“My travel resolution is to break out of the familiar and travel to a place I’ve never seen and that is on the cusp of big change – Burma. Join me in April!”

Executive Director Carleen Pickard wants to plan a mother-daughter trip:
“My travel resolution is to plan another Reality Tour with my mom – we had such an incredible time with GX’s guide, Najib, on the International Women’s Day trip to Afghanistan in 2005.”

Alessandro Isola, Director of Reality Tours, plans to return to North Korea and to visit Cuba:
“My Travel Resolution for 2013 is to visit the PUST University in Pyongyang, the first privately funded university in North Korea, and to travel for the first time to Cuba.”

Drea Hightower, Middle East Director and Cuba (Open) Delegations Director, wants to return to the Middle East, and also to keep it local:
“For 2013 My travel goals are to meet face-to-face any one of my Middle East in-country coordinators for Reality Tours! I’m also committed to spending more time riding my fabulous orange bicycle around town – perhaps I’ll even take it for a road trip too!”

Dr. Vandana Shiva

Shannon Biggs, Director of the Community Rights Program, shares her excitement for 2013’s Rights of Nature Reality Tour to India with Dr. Vandana Shiva:
“Two years ago over lunch, Vandana Shiva suggested I co-lead a Reality Tour to India, to spend time with her and stay at her legendary farm—exploring the rights of nature in the context of India’s sacred seed saving work, Gandhian legacy, Mother Teresa’s Ashram, the Ganges, Agra, fair trade cooperatives and more.  It’s going to be one of those special journeys to recall often, and know it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I know it will be a dream come true for me to explore India through her eyes, and the eyes of the people of India. But don’t take it from me, hear Vandana speak about it.”

All wonderful adventures, many of which you can be a part of too.
My travel resolution for 2013 was to make sure to spend some quality time in Yosemite National Park, but after listening to Dr. Vandana Shiva speak about the 2013 Rights of Nature Reality Tour, I might just have a new resolution…

I would like to visit Ecuador or Colombia in 2013 to attend the International Festival of Poetry.

  2. Excellent travel resolution Enrique, thanks for sharing!

Not sure if you’ve considered this, but you might look into organizing a customized Reality Tour so a group of folks could go to the Poetry Fest. Here’s a link to more info: http://www.globalexchange.org/tours/customized
