When Canada signed on to the Kyoto Protocol in 2002, it took the first step towards a sustainable energy future. This commitment to curb global warming has been undermined by the Harper government's funding cuts to Kyoto-related programs, and the massive expansion of fossil fuel production in the Alberta Tar Sands. As the single largest supplier of American oil and gas, Canada contributes to global warming, job loss, human rights violations, rainforest destruction, and war.
Climate change and the oil industry are threats to our communities, our environment and our national sport, hockey! More and more Canadians are fed up with the government's response climate change and oil-driven environmental destruction. Harper's climate change policies are not 'Made in Canada': they are made in the U.S.A., by the Bush administration and the fossil fuel industry.
Canada must stop fuelling America's oil addiction and invest in a clean, sustainable energy future.
