Nepal: Global Citizen Course

Dates:
August 4, 2013August 27, 2013

Join Global Exchange and ActionAid Denmark to Nepal. Attend the Global Platform Nepal situated centrally in the lively, ancient and fascinating city of Kathmandu. The Global Platform is a space for creative and innovative youth activities. The Platform aims at providing the frames for and support to youth activities, workshops and trainings which will encourage and motivate young people to take action in their communities and promote social change.

After years of civil war in Nepal, there is now peace in the country, but the new constitution is still not in place, and political tensions are simmering below the surface. We will understand this through discussions and lectures combined with field trips and adventures in and around the Kathmandu Valley. We will visit a slum, an orphanage with a focus on street children, we will visit historic temples and monasteries to highlight the importance of religion.

We will teach you about cultural understanding, politics, and the local language. By discussing with young Nepalis in our excursions and projects we create mutual understanding of each other's world and not just a one-way experience. You will leave the course feeling like a global citizen by understanding Nepali reality and acting to make your mark on the world. You will be given the communication tools to investigate what life is like in Nepal and use your creativity to tell others about exactly the issues and experiences that you think are the most exciting.
