South Africa : Art and Culture in South Africa - Another side of Democracy

June 02, 2009 - June 14, 2009

With democracy, South Africa has seen an explosion in the arts. But have the cultural industries been able to transform and support the nation's emerging talent? Are new themes emerging post-apartheid?
This tour will allow participants to engage with the creativity of South Africa by exploring the country's unique heritage and vibrant cultural scene.
Meet with writers, musicians, dancers, actors and artists. Visit the famous Market Theater Complex in Newtown and have a late night drink at Moyo's. Join local poets in a live session at Kippie's Jazz Club. View the contemporary collection at the Constitution Court. Discover the goods sold on the "new" trade routes at the Pan-African Market. Meet with arts administrators and managers in the private and public sectors. Tour will include learning institutions, local galleries, bookstores, nightclubs and theaters

Itinerary will be flexible to meet the needs and specific interests of the participants.
