The Bush administration and international financial bodies insisted that
the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA) was the region's best economic integration choice, as well as thesolution to the development crisis in Latin American and Caribbean countries. The model they promoted as panacea is the one of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), adducing the supposed benefits NAFTA has brought for Mexico.
