When & Where

May 10, 2013 - 6:00pm - 8:30pm

The recovery of gray wolves in the western United States is one of the biggest projects in the history of the Endangered Species Act. In December 2011, a lone male wolf dubbed “OR7″ crossed into California, marking the first documented wolf in the state in nearly 90 years. Are more wolves coming? What will happen once they get here? We will explore the importance of wolves to maintaining healthy ecosystems, the history of wolf recovery in the West, OR7′s journey, and what the California Wolf Center is doing to help wolves recover. Come learn about this intelligent and ecologically important animal.

Our speaker is Lauren Richie, Associate Director of Northern California for the California Wolf Center and works to pave the way for wolf recovery in California. A conservation biologist, Lauren previously worked to resolve human-wildlife conflicts for Defenders of Wildlife and holds degrees in biology and environmental management. Green Friday Potlucks occur on the second Friday of the month at the Sierra Club Office at 2530 San Pablo Ave, across the hall from the Ecology Center. The optional “zero-waste” potluck dinner begins at 6pm followed by our speaker’s presentation.
