Speaking Event: Energy & the Environment in North America
The status of energy resources in North America has changed dramatically in recent years with the development of nonconventional extraction from oil sands in Canada and hydraulic fracturing (fracking) techniques to extract natural gas in the United States. While these methods have moved us toward the goal of energy independence, they also pose political and environmental challenges. Questions have been raised regarding the environmental impact on water supplies and regarding methods of transportation, such as the Keystone XL Pipeline Project carrying oil sands oil through the US Midwest.
Consul General Cassie Doyle will discuss these issues from an overall North American perspective and in the context of the close Canadian-US relationship.
Speaker: Cassie Doyle, Consul General of Canada, Consulate General of Canada in San Francisco
