Calling on all freedom-loving people to join together in honor and celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life this Wednesday July 17, on the eve of Mandela’s 95th birthday and the 2013 annual international Mandela Day of Service!
This July 17 celebration is being hosted by Grace Episcopal Cathedral in the main sanctuary, followed by an informal reception in the church hall. Committee for South African Solidarity (COSAS) and San Francisco African American Chamber of Commerce (SFAACC), per the wishes of the Honourable South Africa Consul General Cyril Ndaba, who all collaborated in making this event possible.
Join us in honouring Mandela’s 67 years of service to the people – and making his birthday wish come alive! In 1990, upon his release from 27 years of imprisonment by the South African apartheid regime, Nelson Mandela made the San Francisco Bay Area his second stop on a US victory tour, expressing his gratitude to the anti-apartheid movement here and conveying the necessity to continue the struggle forward – 70,000 people gathered at the Oakland Coliseum.
This July 17 evening, we’ll express our gratitude to him and play our part in
launching the 2013 annual July 18 Mandela Day of Service, calling on everyone to volunteer at least 67 minutes in service to our communities.
