Please join IDEX in celebrating the work of Goldman Environmental Prize winner for 2014 and Coordinator of the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA), Desmond D'Sa.
An IDEX partner since 2010 and Catalyst Grantee since 2009, IDEX nominated D'Sa for this honor -- the world's largest prize for grassroots environmentalists -- for his enduring dedication to his community and for successfully leading the campaign to shut down the toxic Bulbul landfill in 2011.
Mr. D'Sa will be sharing the details of his current work, SDCEA's "We Shall Not Move" campaign, which seeks to prevent the expansion of Durban’s port. The port expansion would displace thousands of people and exacerbate problems such as waste management, pollution, and traffic.
The evening will include a presentation by Mr. D'Sa, a light buffet dinner, a short film about SDCEA, and a celebratory reception with a special performance by the Vukani Mawethu Choir.
