I look forward to seeing Millstone’s Fair Trade coffee in retail stores to maximize revenue for farmers. Because of the continuing coffee crisis, I hope that Fair Trade will be also extended to P&G’s billion-dollar brand, Folgers, one of the largest coffee companies in the world. As you well know, millions of coffee farmers are facing debt and starvation because global coffee prices have plummeted to all-time lows in recent years, well below the cost of production, ruining an entire generation of families. Considering the severity of this situation and P&G’s strong influence in the coffee market, I feel it is imperative that P&G go beyond this first step and continue to increase your Fair Trade coffee purchasing as soon as possible. I believe that Fair Trade offers the most comprehensive and long-term solution to the coffee crisis because it guarantees a living wage and safe working conditions for small farmers and requires that farmers reserve funds for community development projects. Fair Trade coffee farmers can support their families, their communities, and environment over the long term without needing outside support. Again, thank you for carrying Fair Trade Certified coffee.
