• I, Phoolan Devi by Phoolan Devi. This is the autobiography of the woman depicted in the film "Bandit Queen". She cannot read or write, so this was transcribed entirely from oral interviews. A very personal, moving, and gut-wrenching look at India from the point of view of a poor lower-caste woman.
• An Indian Freedom Fighter Recalls Her Life, by Manmohini Zutshi Sahgal
• Where Women Are Leaders: The SEWA Movement in India, by Kamila Rose
• May You Be the Mother of One Hundred Sons, by Elizabeth Bunmiller. Three years of interviews with Indian women conducted by the author. The interviews deal with such issues as arranged marriages, dowry deaths, and female infanticide.
• Unveiling India, by Anees Jung. Touches on the authors own experiences as a woman in India as well as the experiences of other women both rural and urban.
