United States Social Forum If Another World Is Possible, Another US Is Necessary
The World Social Forum was founded in 2001 to provide an open space for civil society and social movements from around the globe to stand together and create alternatives to the neoliberal policies being promoted at the World Economic Forum held annually in Davos, Switzerland. Since then, a World Social Forum has been held every year with a flurry of regional and thematic Forums taking place throughout the world, from the Mediterranean Social Forum to the Pan-Amazon Social Forum. Finally, after years of building momentum among the grassroots and developing international ties, social movements and organizations from around the country will be hosting the first ever United States Social Forum. The USSF will be held in Atlanta, Georgia June 27- July 1, 2007. Through the USSF, communities in the United States seek to send a message to the world that there is a movement here actively opposing negative U.S. policies at home and abroad. The thousands of people engaged with developing the Social Forum hope to show that in order for conditions abroad to be transformed, tangible changes must occur in the United States. This is exemplified in the USSF slogan, "If Another World is Possible, Another U.S. is Necessary". Global Exchange has been supportive of the USSF process and will host and participate in a number of workshops. Below is a schedule of Global Exchange associated events. To learn more about the USSF or to view more information about the following events, please visit the USSF website . Global Exchange will also need support with tabling at the USSF to let people know about the work we do. If you are interested in helping, please contact Carlos Martinez.
