Colombia Elections Monitoring Project
February -- March 2010

Background and How to Apply

Global Exchange will be providing administrative, media, and technical support for the Colombia Elections Monitoring Project. Global Exchange has organized elections observations in more than a dozen countries since 1993. The organization has organized ten observations of Mexican Presidential, Mid-term, State and Municipal elections since 1994. In 2004, Global Exchange invited 30 expert observers from around the world to observe the US presidential election in five key states. Global Exchange's observation efforts are carried out in a spirit of democratic solidarity and with the humble understanding that observers are guests of the people who are the final arbiters of their sovereignty and national life. The Colombia Elections Monitoring Project in 2010 will be the first observation mission to Colombia that Global Exchange has coordinated.

Requirements:

Applicants must be seasoned travelers and fluent in Spanish. Ideal candidates will have elections observation experience as well as highly developed communication and writing skills. Specialized knowledge of Colombia and its regions are a plus. Non-partisanship, abundant energy to work long hours to document and report on a complex situation, and dedication to complete and truthful reporting are essential.

To apply, please submit the following:
  • A brief letter detailing your prior election observation and other relevant experiences.
  • A current CV.
  • Two professional references with current contact information.
  • A photocopy of the picture page of your passport.
  • Emergency contact information.
Note: If you are accepted, we will request two 2.5 x 3 cm photos for your credential.

If you previously observed elections with Global Exchange, please let us know when and where.
