Green Career Program: Participating Green Businesses
Our Green Career Program interns have been placed at the following businesses who are committed to green practices for the duration of 2009. The application process has already ended and will start again in April 2010. Please do not contact the businesses directly about these internships as they are being administered through the Green Career Program. If you are interested in an internship or for more information, please contact the Green Career Program Director, Pandora Thomas at 415-255-7296 ext. 214 or email pandora@globalexchange.org AlterECO: AlterECO specializes in ecological design alternatives, by creating unique and beautiful custom bamboo cabinets built to high standards of craftsmanship, utility and sustainability. AlterECO features bamboo because of its aesthetic appeal, structural integrity and its environmental benefits as an ecologically responsible and sustainable material. Bay Area Wilderness Training: Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) is a project of the Earth Island Insistute to create opportunities for urban youth to experience wilderness first hand. BAWT provides Bay Area youth with wilderness leadership training and educational courses and well as outdoor equipment so that they can explore California's wilderness, and becomes leaders for other urban youth. Biofuel Recycling Cooperative: The Biofuel Recycling Cooperative is a local non-profit worker cooperative that develops programs that foster sound energy policy while promoting sustainable living within San Francisco. They have been a key element in developing and implementing San Francisco's innovative SFGreasecycle program, which helps fuel the City's diesel fleets with biodiesel made from used grease collected from local restaurants. Hayes Valley Neighborhood Parks Group: The Hayes Valley Neighborhood Parks Group is a diverse group committed to bolstering neighborhood participation, pride and environmental stewardship in the parks and recreation areas in the Hayes Valley-Western Addition of San Francisco. They accomplish their mission through programs and projects that empower residents, youth and their families to be healthy, safe, and to positively impact their community. Luminalt: Luminalt is dedicated to providing the Bay Area with premium solar electric and solar thermal solutions to help their customers reduce their ecological footprint and improve their finances. Luminalt designs, installs and maintains premium solar electric, solar hot water and wind generation systems for residential, commercial, and non-profit customers in the San Francisco Bay Area. MyFarm: MyFarm promotes and produces decentralized urban farms by installing and maintaining backyard organic gardens throughout the city, and by providing Community Supported Agriculture style boxes of fresh local vegetables for sale each week. By increasing local food production they are creating a secure and sustainable food system, and by using organic practices they provide the most nutritious and best tasting vegetables. Rising Sun Energy Center (CYES): Rising Sun Energy Center is a non-profit organization providing a demonstration site and education center for renewable energy and conservation techniques. CYES not only focuses on education, but also provides direct services including: installation of efficiency hardware and renewable technology in residences, and training and employment for young people ages 14-22 as Energy Specialists. Solar Living Institute: The Solar Living Institute is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to promote sustainable living through inspirational environmental education. The institute provides practical education by example and hands-on workshops on renewable energy, green building, sustainable living, permaculture, organic gardening, and alternative environmental construction methods. SunWater Solar: SunWater Solar is a design/build company based in The San Francisco Bay Area. They specialize in all forms of Solar Water Heating (solar thermal). They also design and build hydronic radiant heating systems and combined hydronic radiant and solar thermal heating systems. The practice of Solar Heating is one of the best ways to lower your carbon footprint and help protect the environment. Sustainable Spaces: Sustainable Spaces works to retrofit homes to bring them up to today's high standards of energy efficiency, comfort and health. They provide a number of services involving home performance testing and retrofitting, so that homes in the Bay Area can maximize energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Wildheart Gardens: Wildheart Gardens specializes in permaculture garden design, which includes services in permaculture garden consultations, installations, site assessments, compost system design and installation, mulching, irrigation, and Grey water system design and installation. Wildheart Gardens uses local native seed and plants as well as edibles in their landscape garden designs.
